Pastor Paul Wenz

Paul Wenz is from Ontario, California. He attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ontario for most of his early life. He went to Redeemer’s Christian Day School through  8th grade and was confirmed there in 1981.

Paul went to college at California Lutheran University (CLU) in Thousand Oaks and received his B.A. in Philosophy and Religion in 1989. His studies and travel have gone hand in hand since he spent the summer of 1987 on an archaeological dig in Israel through U.C. Berkeley. He traveled throughout Greece after the dig to see many of places from the New Testament. In January of 1988 he went on a study tour with CLU to the Central American countries of Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador to learn about the struggles of Christians in these poor countries.

In 1989, Paul entered Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. He spent his spring semester of seminary in 1991 in South Korea, studying at Luther Theological University and Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. He graduated from Concordia Seminary with his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree in May of 1993, and began his studies for a Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) degree that same semester. He finished his thesis in Isaiah with a major in Old Testament Theology and received His S.T.M. degree in May 2000 from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, while at his first parish.

Paul was ordained in May 1995 and served as the Assistant Pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton, South Dakota, from 1995 – 2001, and as an associate pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in Orange, CA, as a Minister of Discipleship and a Minister of Christian Care from 2001 – 2007. Pastor Paul’s ministry responsibilities in the past have included administrating large Confirmation programs for both of the St. John’s Lutheran Church’s he has shepherded (with over 90+ students at a time), teaching religion classes at St. John’s Lutheran school in Orange, developing small group Bible studies, designing and teaching New Member Classes, Family Ministry programming, the introduction of the Alpha Course for evangelism and outreach and many other areas of pastoral care.

Pastor Paul’s spiritual gift of teaching has been put to use not only in the many Bible studies he has written and taught at his past three parishes, but also at the LCMS district and synod level. He has taught Deacon courses for the Pacific Southwest District LCMS Lay Leadership Classes since 2002. Pastor Paul has also designed theology class curriculum and taught for Orange Lutheran High School’s on-line program (2002-2004) and had been an adjunct professor of Philosophy at Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD (2000-2001), and in the Theology department at Concordia University Irvine from 2002 to the present.

Pastor Paul received and accepted the call as Pastor of Faith Lutheran church in Riverside, CA, in October of 2007. Paul is married to Kedma Wenz and lives in Riverside with their 5 children.
